Buying a duvet cover should be simple, but UK sizes can be confusing, especially as your duvet size isn't the same as your bed size. Here's everything you need to know.
UK duvet cover sizes at a glance
- Single – 135 x 200 cm (for a single bed)
- Double – 200 x 200 cm (for a double or small double bed)
- King – 230 x 220 cm (for a king size bed)
- Super King – 260 x 220 cm (for a super king bed)
Match the cover to your duvet, not your bed
Your duvet cover should be the same size as your duvet. Check the label on your duvet: if it says Double, buy a Double cover, even if your bed is a King.
Should I size up?
Many couples choose a duvet one size bigger than their bed, for example a King duvet on a Double bed. It hangs nicely over the sides and stops the night-time tug of war. If you do this, buy the cover to match the duvet (King).
What about a Small Double?
A Small Double (4ft) bed usually takes a Double duvet and a Double duvet cover. For the fitted sheet, you'll need a Small Double size, which is 120 x 190 cm.
